چکیده

Most studies designed to determine the etiologic agent in byssinosis have relied on in vitro test for normal volunteers to assess the effects of components isolated from cotton plants, cotton factory dust, or their associated organisms. In one of the few studies directly on byssinotic subjects, symptoms were reproduced on inhalation challenge with a condensed polyphenol isolated from bracts ofeotton plants. The results were highly significant, with only byssinotic

Fever and leucocytosis accompanying asthmatic reactions due to occupational agents: frequency and associated factors.

Fever is sometimes associated with asthmatic reactions following specific inhalation challenges with occupational agents. Our aims were to estimate the prevalence of fever in subjects with occupational asthma confirmed by specific inhalation challenge and to examine the characteristics and clinical correlates of subjects who develop fever on specific inhalation challenge. We performed a retrosp...

Airway Responsiveness to Inhaled Aspirin is Influenced by Airway Hyperresponsiveness in Asthmatic Patients

BACKGROUND/AIMS Many patients with aspirin-induced asthma have severe methacholine airway hyperresponsiveness (AHR), suggesting a relationship between aspirin and methacholine in airway response. This study was performed to determine whether methacholine AHR affects the response of asthmatics to inhaled aspirin. METHODS The clinical records of 207 asthmatic patients who underwent inhalation c...

Increase in non-specific bronchial hyperresponsiveness as an early marker of bronchial response to occupational agents during specific inhalation challenges.

BACKGROUND Specific bronchial reactivity to occupational agents may decline after exposure in the workplace ceases leading to falsely negative specific inhalation challenges. A study was carried out to assess prospectively whether increases in nonspecific bronchial hyperresponsiveness could be useful in detecting the bronchial response to occupational agents during specific inhalation challenge...

Bronchoconstriction in response to deep inhalation during spirometry testing.

In healthy individuals, airway resistance has an inverse relationship with lung volume.1 Moreover, deep inhalation is thought to maintain airway smooth muscle homeostasis and to possess bronchodilating and bronchoprotective properties against challenge agents.2-6 The bronchodilatory effect of deep inhalation is clearly impaired in asthma patients2,7,8; however, the bronchoprotective properties ...

Repeated inhalation challenge with diphenylmethane-4,4'-diisocyanate in brown Norway rats leads to a time-related increase of neutrophils in bronchoalveolar lavage after topical induction.

Diphenylmethane-4,4'-diisocyanate (MDI) is a low-molecular-weight chemical known to cause occupational asthma. The objective of this study was to evaluate the topical and inhalation routes of sensitization on the elicitation response of MDI in the Brown Norway (BN) rat model following repeated challenge exposures. BN rats were either induced topically (150 microl MDI on the flanks, booster admi...
